Outside of pottery, i work in the realm of mental health and neuroscience research. I am a potter. I make functional wheel thrown ceramic ware to enhance the beauty in everyday life. I have been working with clay for over 20 years. I create wheel thrown pieces for everyday use-mugs, bowls, plates, and vessels designed to bring beauty and comfort to everyday use. My work balances clean lines and colours with a modern aesthetic. I also love to create whimsical seasonal pieces. I love developing new expressions in pottery. It is an exciting medium with a wide open palette, creating and continuing a depth of expression that is truly an exciting artistic joy. I love to create whimsical one-of-a-kind fun, functional and ornate art pieces. My background as a designer, calligrapher and painter informs my sense of colour, texture, shape and form. Always exploring new and challenging decorative techniques to express my innate creativity I make functional, wheel-thrown pottery designed for everyday use, focusing on simple forms that feel comfortable, natural, and inviting to hold. I make pots. I'm inspired by my surroundings, bring a balance of creativity and practicality to everything I design and make. Form follows function, but make it fun, keep it interesting, and draw others in. I value creativity, quality, authenticity, and joy, and it's my hope that others see this in my work. Making original and whimsical pieces brings me so much joy, and I love sharing my art with others 🙂 Many of my hand-thrown vases reflect flowing water, whether it be ponds, streams and lakes of Ontario, or the tropical African seas of my childhood. My intention is always to intrigue, and to have the viewer feel the urge to reach out, to touch and to hold. One of my first pots, a bowl has a date of 2008 on it. My first raku piece 2012. In 2000 I started firing my own kiln and found a mentor. The surprise of raku, horse hair and ferric chloride raku, barrel firing and clay and foil saggar is an area I have been developing as well as functional pots. Small batch hobby potter. Learning and attempting new things with each batch. A jock, nerd, and artist combined. I pull on all facets of my life and experience to create my pieces.
